A licensed funeral director since 1998, Mr. Shannik graduated from Humber College and was awarded the Board of Funeral Services Award for outstanding academic performance. He was director of new business development and an account executive at a large preneed marketing company from 2004 until 2009. Noticing stagnancy and missed marketing opportunities in the industry, Mr. Shannik branched out with a colleague to form a new company focused on creating innovative marketing approaches, Shannik Barrett Preneed Solutions. As one of the most sought-after funeral educators and speakers, Mr. Shannik regularly travels coast-to-coast bringing dynamic estate workshops to communities on behalf of his clients. Mr. Shannik is a licensed life insurance agent in multiple provinces, a financial management advisor (FMA) and a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. Having worked at Edward Jones as an investment representative and a production efficiency specialist, Mr. Shannik has a comprehensive understanding of the financial and insurance industries and unites his areas of expertise to ensure unparalleled preplanning products and programs for his clients.
Vice President & Business Development Specialist – Atlantic Canada
Ms. Barrett graduated with honors from the funeral services education program at Nova Scotia Community College, Kingstec Campus, in 2000, and received the award of excellence in human anatomy and physiology. She immediately began her career at a busy funeral home in St. John’s, NL, and obtained both her funeral director and embalmer licenses in 2001. Ms. Barrett served as a director on the Board of Bereavement Association at Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s in 2003. Ms. Barrett assumed the role of branch manager and funeral director of Barrett’s Funeral Homes Mt. Pearl Chapel in 2008 and launched their successful preneed program. In 2016 Ms. Barrett shifted her career focus from funeral home management and accepted a position as account manager for the Atlantic provinces with Shannik Barrett Preneed Solutions. Ms. Barrett is a licensed life insurance agent in multiple provinces and pairs her many years of experience as a funeral director with her life insurance knowledge.
Business Development Specialist – Ontario
Ms. Penfold attended the Humber College funeral service education program and has been a licensed funeral director since 1990. She grew up in a family operated funeral home and returned to manage and become co-owner of the family business from 1992 to 2008 giving her a unique perspective of the challenges of operating an independent firm. In 2009, Ms. Penfold worked as a preplanning counsellor for one of Canada’s largest preneed marketing firms. After three years, Ms. Penfold went on to become the lead counsellor and at-need arranger in the corporate market with focus on training and strategic planning. Ms. Penfold joined Shannik Barrett Preneed Solutions in 2015 as an office administrator and quickly rose to the position of business development specialist for the province of Ontario. She became a licensed life insurance agent in 2017 and regularly assists her clients with speaking engagements and workshop presentations with confidence and an affable flair.
Marketing & Office Administrator
Ms. Frame graduated from Westervelt College in London, Ontario and earned her legal assistant diploma with honours in 2000. Seeking to explore new opportunities, she began working for a national preneed company in 2001. Initially employed in reception, Ms. Frame managed a variety of tasks associated with providing timely and accurate customer service to funeral homes and confidential policy administration. Ms. Frame’s highly motivated and organized demeanour, combined with strong attention to detail, led to her transition to a marketing coordinator role. In October 2014, Ms. Frame brought her expertise to the Shannik Barrett Preneed Solutions team. Her passion for helping funeral home clients provide continuing education to their communities enable her to assist with planning and executing preneed marketing campaigns.
A graduate of the International Institute of Travel in 2011, Ms. Martin earned a diploma in hospitality and secured a position with a top boutique hotel in Toronto, Ontario. Within a very short period of time, Ms. Martin was recognized for her exemplary customer service and was promoted to reservations supervisor. By leading, motivating and coordinating a team, Ms. Martin ensured seamless and highly satisfactory guest service and efficient liaisons with third-party reservation partners. Ms. Martin’s early experience as a customer service and copy centre representative with Staples Canada provided the foundation for her strong work ethic and desire to exceed customer expectations. Ms. Martin joined the Shannik Barrett Preneed Solutions customer service and administration team in 2016 and has been an invaluable addition.
Manuela Tesi, CHS
An insurance specialist since 1990, Ms. Tesi obtained her life insurance agent license in 2007 and soon after attained the certified health specialist (CHS) designation. Ms. Tesi dedicated most of her career to one of the largest and most powerful medical organizations in Canada and delivered sales and business growth by fostering strong client relationships. When Ms. Tesi noticed there was a lack of cohesive industry and product knowledge, she branched out on her own. In 2009, Ms. Tesi volunteered at the Ontario International Medical Graduate School to assist physicians with a medical degree obtained outside of Canada gain status within the Ontario healthcare system. As a skilled communicator, Ms. Tesi was VP, Public Relations for Toastmasters International and provided representation in 2010 at various Toastmasters clubs. Ms. Tesi has an all-inclusive understanding of client needs and what it takes to make a business succeed by going above and beyond for the customer.
